The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, has been reported sick and allegedly unable to function at optimum capacity.

?The alleged health challenge of Egbetokun is an ?open secret? to most police officers in all the state police commands in the country,? according to The SUPREME, a security-oriented portal.

Though the paper did not disclose the nature of the ailment, it said that two different medical doctors who spoke under strict anonymity explained that, ?anybody who has such an ailment cannot do hard job.?

It alleged that, ?due to the alleged health challenge of IGP Egbetokun he does not spend more than five hours a day in the office.?

The SUPREME quoted an unnamed former management team of the Force as saying: ?We don?t normally start our Monday management meetings until 1pm or 2pm instead of 10am. And by 5pm he (Egbetokun) has closed. It is true that he does not go to the office until 1pm or 2pm, and closes before 7pm. We (management staff) are aware of his health challenge.?

Sources close to Egbetokun contacted by News Express however dismissed the report. One of them said: ?You can quote me. The IGP is very hale and hearty. He works late, and I can also tell you he left the office around 8pm last night and continued at home up to 2am when I left his house. Most people don't know that the IGP has an office in the official Police house, and he receives visitors officially at home as well. Last week, he left home at 8am to attend a meeting with the NSA till 3pm and still came to the office to work late till 6pm. Egbetokun is hale and hearty.?

Asked why rumours of Egbetokun?s alleged sickness is rife at police state commands, the source replied: ?Some aggrieved officers retired by the PSC are behind the rumour, and a particular AIG eyeing the office is the major sponsor of the publication.?
