Some people of Umuora village, Umuohiri community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State have allegedly killed one of their kinsmen, Chibugo Amadi, while administering jungle justice on him.
The Guardian gathered that the deceased, penultimate week, macheted his brother over a minor altercation, leaving him in a pool of blood. But for the timely intervention of some people, his brother was rushed to a nearby hospital and was resuscitated.
However, his kinsmen were angered by his action, which they described as inhuman and unacceptable. Hence, they caught him, stripped him naked, and while parading him around the village, hitting him with available sticks and wood, the man suddenly collapsed and died in the process.
An activist journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, who is the founder of Stand for Humanity Foundation, while briefing journalists over the incident in Owerri on Sunday, said that the perpetrators dumped the corpse of the deceased in a morgue and fled after doctors confirmed him dead in the hospital to which they rushed him.
Okeoma said that while the villagers were beating the deceased, they were recording the proceedings and publishing them on social media platforms.
The activist journalist, in collaboration with the legal adviser of the foundation, Chijioke Onwubuariri, who are championing advocacy for justice for the family of the deceased, disclosed that the suspects, whose faces are conspicuous in the video clips showing how they allegedly killed the deceased, tried to lie that the deceased fell from a tree when his 18-year-old son met them at a hospital in Okwelle in the Onuimo Local Government Area where they rushed him.
Okeoma said that he and the legal adviser of the Foundation, Onwubuariri, had submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, which was approved, and the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department was ordered to investigate.
Okeoma said that the wife of the deceased, with three out of her eight children, ran to the Stand for Humanity Foundation demanding justice.
Okeoma said, ?The wife of the deceased, Mrs. Chinonye Amadi, in company of three out of her eight children, ran to our organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, seeking justice. We have undertaken the matter, and the petition written by our legal adviser, Chijioke Onwubuariri, to the CP has been approved. It is an intentional murder. We have video clips of how they deliberately murdered him.
?They conspired and sold his four plots of land and still murdered him. They refused to take him to the police after conspiring to sell his four plots of land at an undervalued price and still administered jungle justice on him in the presence of his wife and children.
?Now they are on the run, but they must be caught. I thank our legal adviser, Chijioke Onwubuariri, who has offered legal services in this matter on pro bono basis, and we are asking all well-meaning members of society to join us in this task of making sure that the suspects do not go free.?
