Panic gripped residents of Gbazango Extension Relocation 2, along Arab Road in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, following a kidnapping incident in the early hours of Saturday.
Residents told our correspondent that gunmen stormed the community around 1am and abducted a male resident.
During the attack, one person was shot and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
According to a resident identified as Yahaya, police officers and vigilante members who arrived at the scene could not contain the attackers.
? Gunmen attacked our community again today. They took one of us away and shot another resident, who is now in the hospital. When the police arrived, they and vigilante, couldn?t stop the gunmen. It was like they had planned everything well before coming,? Yahaya said.
Another resident, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, said the gunmen shot sporadically to scare people away before whisking their victim away.
?We are living in fear. This is not the first time something like this is happening. It happens every year and sometimes, multiple times in a year. We are pleading with the government and security agencies to step up action,? the resident added.
The chairman of the community, Jonathan Agbo, told our correspondent that he was away when the incident occurred but heard of it.
?I have been away, I just returned, I only heard of what you are asking me. I will call you back when I have the full details, ? he said.
The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, promised to find out and revert, but she had not yet done so as of the time of filing this report. (Saturday PUNCH)
