TCN MD, Engr Sule Abdulaziz
By ABDULKABIR MUHAMMED
In the face of consistent power outage, a civil society group, the Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development (AYAPD), has issued a 10 working days ultimatum of resignation to the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Sule A. Abdulaziz. This was contained in a press statement signed by AYAPD's Secretary, James Ishaku, and made available to News Express yesterday, Friday, May 23, 2025.
AYAPD had in May last year held a meeting with Engr. Abdulaziz, alongside Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance, during which the TCN MD guaranteed a better power transmission.
However, AYAPD in Friday?s statement decried the ?inaction? by TCN, claiming that it ?hampers efforts to improve electricity transmission and exacerbates the nation's energy crisis.?
AYAPD accused Abdulaziz of disallowing stakeholders' outreach and attempting to sabotage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement partly reads in part: "In what appears to be a total disregard for stakeholder engagement, Engr. Abdulaziz has consistently ignored outreach from stakeholders and civil society groups, demonstrating a lack of accountability and transparency. His unwillingness to engage constructively with concerned parties reflects a leadership style disconnected from the needs and aspirations of Nigerians and allegedly acting to sabotage and frustrate the President?s Renewed Hope Agenda."
AYAPD urged President Tinubu to dismiss Engr. Abdulaziz, threatening a massive protests should he refused to resign in 10-working days. Further demands by the group include a replacement and thorough investigation into mismanagement under the MD's tenure.
Below are the demands by AYAPD:
"The immediate resignation of Engr. Sule A. Abdulaziz from his position as MD/CEO of TCN in 10 working days.
"His refusal to do so will call for a very massive protest occupying the TCN building until he resigns or gets dismissed immediately by President Bola Tinubu
"A thorough investigation into the allegations of mismanagement under his tenure.
"He should not be considered for any public appointment until proven otherwise.
"The appointment of a competent and visionary leader to steer the TCN towards achieving a stable and efficient power supply for all Nigerians.?
