5 clubs in race to sign Osimhen

Victor Osimhen, Nigerian soccer star

As the summer transfer window approaches, clubs are in the race to capture Victor Osimhen into their team, thanks to the super exciting season the Super Eagles forward had with Galatasaray.

The Nigerian was one of the most sought-after prospects during last summer’s transfer window, but the financial implications of signing him prevented any deal from being completed before deadline day.

He finally joined Galatasaray on loan because continuing at Napoli was improbable, and aside from a rumoured approach from Manchester United last January, speculation over Osimhen’s future dwindled.

However, as the season winds down, clubs have returned, seeking to trigger his €75 million release clause (originally €130 million).

Here, according to Daily Sun, the five clubs in the race to sign Osimhen:

Arsenal

The Gunners’ interest has been revealed by the Turkish website Takvim.

The North London giants are anticipated to bring in attacking talent in the summer after crucial injury setbacks this season.

Arsenal will not have it all their way if they opt to recruit Osimhen as their flagship signing this summer, as Manchester United and Chelsea are also set to bid for the former Royal Charleroi striker.

Manchester United

Manchester United’s winter proposal was rejected by the Nigerian, who preferred to finish the season at Galatasaray.

They are expected to make a comeback for Osimhen, but uncertainty surrounds this after the Red Devils missed out on Champions League football for next season by falling to Tottenham at the Europa League final.

Chelsea

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is reportedly eyeing Osimhen in the transfer market.

While this has not been confirmed, speculations suggest that it should not be dismissed out of hand.

Barcelona

Barcelona has joined the list of prominent European teams interested in acquiring Osimhen as a long-term successor for Robert Lewandowski.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Barcelona hopes that Napoli will entertain bids below Osimhen’s €75 million release clause next summer, as he is one of their top attacking targets for the 2025/26 season.

Galatasaray

Galatasaray clinched the 2024/25 Turkish Super League title, securing its long-awaited fifth star and direct entry into the revamped UEFA Champions League with the help of the Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen.

With this success, the Turkish giants have yet again reaffirmed their desire to retain the Super Eagles ace striker permanently ahead of next season.
