Ademola Lookman, Africas best player

Arsenal is weighing up a potential move for Atalanta star, Ademola Lookman, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options ahead of a busy summer transfer window.

The Gunners are reportedly admirers of the Nigerian international, who is enjoying another outstanding season in Serie A. Lookman, who recently won the CAF African Footballer of the Year award, played a pivotal role in securing Atalanta’s Champions League qualification.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are seriously considering a move for the 27-year-old but remain cautious due to his age and potential lack of resale value. Lookman is currently valued at around £50 million and is under contract at Atalanta until the summer of 2027.

Despite a public disagreement with manager Gian Piero Gasperini earlier in the year following a missed penalty against Club Brugge, Lookman has bounced back impressively and remains a key figure in the Italian side’s attack. He is said to be content in Bergamo, with Atalanta finishing third in Serie A and returning to the Champions League.

Liverpool are also monitoring Lookman’s situation, with reports of a possible swap deal involving Federico Chiesa. However, Arsenal are reportedly not interested in such a proposal, preferring a direct purchase if they move forward.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is overseeing a proactive and ambitious transfer strategy at Arsenal this summer. The North London side are keen to add both a marquee striker and a new winger, with Lookman featuring on a shortlist of attacking targets.

Arsenal are looking to act swiftly in the market, having faced criticism in past windows for delayed deals. The club is reportedly aiming for another summer of heavy investment, potentially matching the £200 million spent in 2023.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi is expected to be one of the first signings confirmed, with a £51 million agreement reportedly in place since January. That early business has allowed Arsenal to shift focus to other key areas, including the addition of a top-tier No. 9. (Now Arsenal)
