The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, has directed the Deputy-Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations, DIG Joshack Habilla, to proceed to Plateau State with immediate effect to ensure the arrest of the killers of Chief Lazarus Agaie, the traditional ruler of Bokkos, who was murdered on his way from a farm alongside his wife, son and Police orderly.
The IGP, according to a statement issued Thursday by Don Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police and Force Public Relations Officer, said those behind the gruesome murder of the monarch will be fished out in record time for prosecution, saying, this is why the Deputy Inspector-General of Police is sent to Plateau State. He further said it was pathetic to see the life of any Nigerian, irrespective of his or her status snuffed out by any criminal gang in whatever name.
The IGP said the death of the monarch, his family and orderly were particularly painful, but more painful when we take to reprisal attacks; he therefore advised the aggrieved to be patients with the Police in their investigation into the murder of the monarch.
Idris said the Nigeria Police will leave no stone unturned in arresting the culprits, but need the collaboration of everyone with useful information, without over heating the already tensed insecurity challenges the country is going through. He assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police under his watch will ensure decency in the polity.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Bokkos Local Government Area following the protest that followed the brutal murder of the paramount ruler and some of his aides.
Rising from an emergency meeting of the Security Council over the unfortunate incident, Secretary to the State Government, Rufus Bature, in a statement advised the general public and residents of the affected areas to comply with the imposition of the restriction order and cooperate with security personnel deployed to the area to maintain law and order.
Angry youths of Bokkos had on Thursday protested the murder of the paramount ruler and three others on Monday evening.
The aggrieved youths took to the streets protesting and blocking the highway between Bokkos and Barkin Ladi to express their grievances on the killings.
The Plateau State Police Commissioner, Olakunle Oladunjoye, explained that contrary to insinuations that that the traditional ruler was shot, he died as a result of the vehicle losing control after the driver of his vehicle was shot.
