A 28-year-old ex-convict, Olayinka Olwaseyi, arrested for robbing motorists stuck in traffic jam has confessed that he went back to crime for lack of what to do.
The suspect, who was re-arrested three months after he came out of prison, claimed that he wanted to stay away from crime but was compelled to go back as a result of hunger.
?I wouldn?t have gone back into robbery if I had something to do, no matter how small.
?I had no job to go back to when I came out of prison. People started avoiding me. No one wants to identify with me. It is the society that forced me back,? he added.
Olayinka was arrested on May 13, 2025, while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 12 Bridge, Lagos.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed his arrest, saying that he was sighted trying to dispossess his victim of his belongings around 1.30am.
Hundeyin said his swift arrest was made possible by the timely intervention of the patrol team.
He said one other suspect involved in the attempted robbery is currently at large, and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
?Preliminary investigations revealed that Olayinka Oluwaseyi was released from prison about three months ago for the same crime.
?He is currently in custody while investigations continue. He will be arraigned once investigations are concluded,? he added. (Daily Trust)
