The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has successfully airlifted 14,165 Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia within five days of its ongoing 2025 Hajj airlift operations, representing 34.4% of the total expected movement.

This was disclosed in an official update issued by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publication, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

The update revealed that a total of 35 flights have so far been operated, significantly surpassing last year’s record of 23 flights which had conveyed 9,788 pilgrims, amounting to 20.2% of the total in the same period.

NAHCON highlighted that four states – Oyo, Abia, Kogi, and Nasarawa – have completed their airlift, while Ondo and Ekiti States are in the final stages of their operations, preparing for a combined airlift. Notably, no flight cancellations have been recorded, with one of the carriers transporting pilgrims from Niger State even arriving in Saudi Arabia ahead of schedule, a feat commended by the Commission.

The Commission attributed the successful operations to the effective collaboration between the State Pilgrims’ Boards and the decision to engage four airlines for this year’s exercise. NAHCON also acknowledged the support of Saudi Arabian authorities in releasing full flight schedules to all participating airlines, ensuring smooth planning and punctuality.

All flights are currently landing in Madinah, as per the agreed arrangement. The first batch of pilgrims who arrived in the Kingdom proceeded to Makkah on Wednesday to begin their Umrah rites, specifically for those undertaking Hajj Tumattu’i or Qiran.

In a related development, NAHCON has clarified that no official visa was issued to Nigeria by Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj. The Commission has urged the public to report any individual claiming to possess or sell such visas.

Similarly, NAHCON emphasized that only licensed Tour Operators are authorized to register pilgrims, warning against fraudulent activities.

The Commission assured the public of its commitment to transparency and accountability, while appreciating the interest and support of Nigerians. Regular updates on the ongoing Hajj airlift will continue to be provided.
