A 28-year-old man, Gabriel Hay, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for several sex crimes committed over almost 10 years.
Hay’s crimes were uncovered through a major investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Hay, who lived on Gauden Road in Clapham, London, was found guilty of rape, attempted rape, and two sexual assaults.
He was convicted at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, March 10, and sentenced on Tuesday.
He committed the crimes between 2014 and 2023.
One of the most disturbing cases happened in 2023, when he raped a woman he met while working at a bar in Clapham.
He invited the woman and her friend to drink more somewhere else.
He gave the woman so much alcohol that she became unsteady.
Then, he took her to his home, where he lived with his mother and raped her.
The woman later reported the crime, and her courage helped police reopen older cases linked to Hay.
These included, in 2014, he groped a woman in her 20s at a party in Clapham, in 2016, he tried to rape the same woman and in 2018, he sexually assaulted another woman in a taxi in south London.
Detective Sergeant Damian Jones, who led the investigation, praised the victims for speaking out.
“While nothing can undo Hay’s horrific crimes, I hope this sentence brings some closure. It’s because of these women’s bravery that he’s now behind bars,” he said.
He also said that Hay’s imprisonment takes a dangerous predator off the streets and shows the Met Police’s strong stand against violence toward women and girls. (The PUNCH: Text, Excluding Headline)
