A hearing into the alleged sexual misconduct by three Nigerian lawmakers in the US has again been stalled.

The Three Nigerian lawmakers, Samuel Ikon (PDP, Akwa Ibom), Mohammed Gololo (APC, Bauchi) and Mark Gbillah (APC, Benue) were accused of alleged sexual misconduct while on an official assignment in Cleveland, USA in April this year.

House of Representatives Joint Committee on Ethics and Privileges and Foreign Affairs had scheduled the hearing to hold today (Wednesday).

However, the proceeding was stalled following the failure of outgoing US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle to honor the panel’s invitation.

Last week Thursday, he was also expected to appear before the joint panel to provide video evidence for the alleged crime. But he didn’t show up.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who was also supposed to appear before the panel, sent in a letter explaining he had to be at the Federal Executive council, which holds today.

The accused lawmakers had travelled with seven other Reps to the U.S. for the International Visitor Leadership Program.

In June, US Envoy Entwistle wrote a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives accusing the three lawmakers of sexual misconduct.

The outgoing envoy, in a petition to House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, said Mohammed Gololo (APC-Bauchi) grabbed a hotel house keeper and solicited sex in his Cleveland hotel room.

He also accused Mark Gbillah (APC-Benue) and Samuel Ikon (PDP-Akwa Ibom) of seeking assistance from car park attendants to help them arrange services of prostitutes.

Following their actions, the US government has cancelled the visas of the accused lawmakers as punishments for their misconducts, barring them from entering the US.

The lawmakers have since denied the allegations. (TV360 Nigeria)
