FGs subsidised rice
By ALEX ENEBELI
Some Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Enugu State have expressed regret over their alleged exclusion from the Federal Government?s subsidised rice.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a bag of the foreign rice is sold for N40,000 to federal workers.
Some of the workers in Enugu, however, reported to NAN on Wednesday that they were excluded from the ongoing capturing of intending buyers at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Enugu.
They complained that some organisations were allocated less number of bags than their staff size.
One of them, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they came for capturing and were told that their organisation was not on the list.
The worker said that they were billed for capturing on Monday but were unable to come until Wednesday, when they told them that the portal had closed.
?We pleaded with them but they asked us to wait until the next batch or report to Abuja,? she said.
Another civil servant told NAN that her office was allocated 20 bags but only 13 staff were present to be captured.
?So, we came the following day to make it up to 20 but they told us that our organisation?s space had closed.
?We demanded for the list of our staff that registered but they refused to show us.
?This is terrible because it is our right,? she lamented.
Another civil servant said that he wrote his name on the list and went home to collect his ATM card for payment only for his name to be exchanged with that of his colleague before he returned.
?They should have used the staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Enugu Office, who know us, to do the capturing and distribution than people from Abuja.
?In my office, we were allocated 20 bags of rice as against the 125 workers and I am appealing for more bags so the rice can go round,? he said.
Reacting to the complaints, one of the officials told NAN that once the portal for an organisation is closed, it could not be opened again. (NAN)
