National Chairman CJTF, Prof Kailani Muhammad
By ADEROGBA GEORGE
Prof. Kailani Muhammad, the National Chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), has called on the Federal Government to embark on border control as done recently by the developed climes.
He said that such action would prevent illegal foreigners from entering Nigeria.
Muhammad made the call at the strategic meeting with the state CJTF commanders in Abuja on Saturday.
He underscored the need for government to block the porosity of the Nigeria?s borders to promote peace and stability in the country.
The CJTF chairman said the intelligence revealed that the issues of insecurity in Benue and Plateau especially attacks on locals were perpetrated by the foreigners.
?We don?t know how these people come into our country, commit heinous crime, and then, they will even be saying they are happy. The issue of Benue and Plateau States, look at it, they are saying they are foreigners.
?Our borders are actually very porous. During President Muhammadu Buhari?s administration, when I had the opportunity to interact with him, we found out that there were over 2,000 around our borders, inlets and outlets around the borders. So, it?s porous.
?Anybody can come into Nigeria. I don?t know why. We are advising the government if they can bring border control, like what President Donald Trump is doing now.
?Let them build a wall for us. If we have the money, we can do it, like he?s done in developed climes. Then, we put CCTV everywhere.?
According to him, from100 to 200 kilometres, our security agencies should be monitoring all those people that want to come into Nigeria, and they will take action.
The CJTF chairman also appealed to the state and federal governments to support the CJTF personnel with funds and equipment to complement the efforts of the security agencies.
?The Immigration, the army and the police are overwhelmed by these 2,000 inlets created by foreigners to enter Nigeria. So, we want the federal government to look into this and support the civilian JTF more.?
He also appealed to the U.S government and its allies to help Nigeria in identifying the locations of the criminal elements in the country.
?They should identify the insurgents, bandits and terrorists in Nigeria for us, give us more intelligence. They should tell us their sponsors in and outside the country, and the modus of operandi, the way they operate,? he said.
He lauded the feat recorded by the CJTF in the last months in the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
?In the last three months, the CJTF in collaboration with the security agencies, did a very wonderful job.
?They went to Deidei again, and arrested over 300 crooks, criminals, and only the day before yesterday, they were at Mpape, they arrested over 300.
?They are all in SARS. You can follow up to find out whether they have been prosecuted or not. Yesterday, the CJTF went to Babanbola where those criminals hide.
?In fact, at Apo, they did a very good job. They were able to destroy all their camps,? he said. (NAN)
