The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Ibrahim Idris, and Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. (Sir) Mike Okiro, IGP (Rtd.), met yesterday to agree on the list of the new set of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), a competent source close to the Police High Command has told News Express.

“The two men used the opportunity of their meeting yesterday when Idris paid a courtesy visit on Okiro in his office in Abuja to go through the list of Police Commissioners being recommended for promotion to the rank of AIG by the Acting IGP,” the source disclosed.

The source, who pleaded not to be named as he had no authority to speak on the issue, gave the number of prospective AIGs as a little less than 30. “I understand that it is around 28 but I cannot confirm the exact figure for now,” the source said.

He revealed that Okiro and Idris also discussed the places of assignment of the incoming set of AIGs.

Present during the visit were members of the Force Management Team and PSC Commissioners, including the Acting Secretary of the Commission, Prince Emmanuel Ibe.

News Express reports that the AIG positions became vacant following the purge of the rank as a result of the appointment of Idris, a junior AIG, as Nigeria’s top cop by President Muhammadu Buhari in the wake of the retirement of the erstwhile IGO Solomon Arase.
