Armed robbers on Monday shot and wounded a Catholic priest in Ibadan, Oyo State, after trailing and dispossessing him of N250,000 he had withdrawn from the bank.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that Rev. Father Emmanuel Ogboli of Saints Felix Catholic Church, Oluyole, was attacked at Rhema Bridge while returning from Zenith Bank, Ring Road.

He was riding on a commercial motorcycle when two unidentified assailants on another bike intercepted and opened fire on him.

The priest was shot in the left thigh and robbed of the cash he had withdrawn moments earlier.

Police operatives from the Oluyole Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly responded to the distress call and rushed the victim to Divine Hospital, Oluyole. He was later referred to Adeoyo State Hospital for further medical attention.

The police have launched an investigation and manhunt for the fleeing suspects. (Text, excluding headline: Zagaaola)
