Police operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Command in Anambra State on the evening of Saturday, April 12, 2025 successfully rescued a victim with gunshot wound from two gunmen who were also arrested at the scene.

Recoveries made from the operation include, an AK47 rifle, a pistol, and six rounds of live ammunition.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reads in part: “On the evening of April 12, 2025, police operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu responded promptly to a shooting incident in Ukwulu, preventing the situation from escalating further.

“The operatives rescued a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound, while also recovering one AK47 rifle, one pistol, and six rounds of live ammunition. Two suspects were arrested at the scene.

“The suspects are currently undergoing police interrogation, while the victim was immediately taken to the hospital and is now receiving medical treatment.”

According to Ikenga, investigations revealed that both the victim and the armed suspect, who had sought the assistance of another, are brothers.

He said that they have reportedly been involved in an ongoing, serious dispute.

The PPRO further hinted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough investigation.
