Egbetokun, IGP
A Lagos-based businesswoman, Mrs. Oluwapelumi Modupe Alabi, has dragged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over alleged infringement on her human rights by the officers of the Nigerian Police Force.
The applicant is seeking redress for the enforcement of her fundamental human rights allegedly trampled upon by her husband with the assistance of the men of the Nigeria Police Force.
She said she had disagreement with her husband, Muyiwa Alabi.
The applicant is suing the IGP alongside the Assistant Inspector General of Police, F.C.I.D, Alagbon; SP. Ajiboye Omoyupo, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos state; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, SCID; ACP. Shola Omilade of the Lagos state SCID Panti, Lagos; SP. Musa Arigu (O/C) SCID Panti, Lagos; SP. Ibukun Oluwalana; SP. Abubakar and Mr. Victor Muyiwa Alabi.
She dragged the defendants to court for their roles in criminalising an ordinary dispute between Muyiwa and herself as she has remained a target of various Police stations in Nigeria from Lagos to Abuja.
In the application marked: FHC/L/CS/466/2025 and brought before Justice Yellim Bogoro, the applicant (Oluwapelumi) alleged that the ninth respondent, Muyiwa (Oluwapelumi’s husband) is using the police personnel to illegally intimidate, harass and threaten her in multiple police stations in the country, contrary to section 33 and 34 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a sworn affidavit before the court, the applicant averred that she married Muyiwa under the Yoruba custom and tradition on 24th October, 2024, in Lagos. She said they were happily married until a lady named Tosin intruded into the holy union.
She said: “Puzzled by this development, I contacted the 10th respondent to ascertain the reason for abandoning me, but he ignored me. I then did a discreet investigation into the matter and found out that he had moved in with Tosin. The 10th respondent subsequently cut ties with me.”
Consequently, she said she was surprised when she received a court summons from a customary court, signaling the commencement of divorce proceedings. (Blueprint)
