Lakurawa bandits
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Tuesday as suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly attack on the Sanyinna community in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing three fishermen.
According to local sources, the victims were engaged in their routine fishing activities when they were ambushed and killed in cold blood.
The incident occurred just a day after similar attacks were carried out in Sutti and Takkau villages, also in Tangaza LGA, where two residents sustained gunshot wounds.
Garzali Raka, Special Assistant on Security to the Tangaza Council Chairman, confirmed the attacks, stating that the assailants also looted livestock, including cows, camels, sheep, and goats during the Monday raids.
Raka praised the prompt action of security personnel, who pursued the bandits and engaged them in a fierce gunfight, eventually recovering the stolen animals in the nearby Siddi community.
?Two residents who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at Tangaza General Hospital,? he added.
Expressing concern over the escalating violence, Raka highlighted the growing pattern of daylight attacks, particularly in communities reliant on animal husbandry.
He urged both federal and state authorities to intensify security efforts and restore normalcy, stressing that peace is a prerequisite for sustainable development.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incidents. He assured that the command is actively pursuing the perpetrators and vowed that they would be brought to justice in due course. (Nigerian Tribune)
