Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, narrowly escaped a suspected assassination attempt over the weekend as armed gunmen reportedly invaded his Surulere residence in the early hours of Sunday.

An aide to the NURTW boss, who spoke with Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying, ?It is true that some gunmen invaded the chairman?s house between Saturday and Sunday. They forced their way into the building and overpowered the security man. After attacking him, they left when they were told the chairman was not around.?

The aide further explained that Sego was on the Island during the time of the attack, which may have thwarted the assailants? plans. ?We were on the Island, but they thought that we were in Surulere,? he added.

He also revealed that the attackers left a chilling message for the security guard. ?Before they eventually left, they tied the security man and took his picture with a threat that he should not tell the chairman anything or they would come back and kill him,? the aide disclosed. (The PUNCH)
