HEKAN President, Rev Amos Kiri
President of the HEKAN Church, Rev. Amos Kiri, has raised concerns over the growing threat insecurity poses to pastors and church workers, describing the situation as dire and unprecedented.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the ordination of four new pastors in Kaduna, Rev. Kiri said the prevailing security situation has made it increasingly difficult for clergymen to carry out their spiritual duties in the fields, especially in rural and volatile communities.
?This is not the best of times for our pastors on the mission fields. The security challenges have made the work of God more dangerous. Many have been displaced, and some have paid the ultimate price,? he said.
Rev. Kiri recalled how his predecessor, Rev. Emmanuel Dziggau, was kidnapped alongside three other ministers, one of whom died in captivity. He added that HEKAN members from communities like Farin Dutse and Makera in Kauru LGA have been forced to flee due to repeated attacks.
?Even some of those ordained today had to relocate from Pambegwa, not because they wanted to, but due to persistent insecurity. They have remained faithful despite living in difficult conditions,? he noted.
He called on both the federal and the Kaduna State governments to strengthen security collaboration and take decisive action to end the menace.
?This evil has come, but it must go. Government must coordinate better and ensure that the lives of citizens are protected. Our borders are porous, and criminals continue to take advantage,? he added.
Charging the newly ordained pastors, Rev. Giri urged them to lead by example, spiritually prepare their congregations, and promote righteousness in the face of growing threats.
He also spoke on the importance of cultural integration, stating that the church?s cultural activities are designed to promote unity and harmony across faiths.
Rev. Kiri reiterated the church?s commitment to peaceful coexistence, calling on Nigerians to embrace diversity and work collectively for a more secure and united nation. (The Nation)
