Obosi Development Union President General waving to people
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE
The President General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, has stated that communal initiative is central to solving Obosi town’s security problems.
He made the statement in his office during a media chat in reaction to the financial contributions, which are being made by Obosi people for the execution of security measures in Obosi.
In order to stem the tide of the perpetration of crimes in the town, Barr rolled out security measures.
But boosting the morale of the town’s security operatives, who will execute the security measures, is of paramount and utmost importance.
And their morale can be boosted by paying their monthly salaries with regular promptitude.
To achieve that noble end, the ODU is working synergically with the Obosi Village Square (OVS) WhatsApp platform to raise money for the payment of the salaries of the members of the Obosi Vigilance Group.
So far, the OVS financial drive spearheaded by the pious Bishop Sam Chidoka has started to yield the expected result, as Obosi people are making generous donations to the common financial pool.
The Obosi town's Interim measure, which is aimed at raising money to execute measures that will combat crimes in the town, has highlighted the urgency of the need for Nigeria to return to the practice of true federalism.
The devolution of power to the grassroots level will give the locals, who are acquainted with their town’s problems, the opportunity to solve their problems.
Because they know their people’s sociology and psychology well, they are better positioned to solve their problems by themselves.
So knowing that government’s paucity of fund and its bureaucratic bottlenecks and red tapism will delay its response to their cry for help, the Obosi people have picked up the gauntlet to solve their town’s problems.
So regarding the Obosi people’s current effort to raise money to solve their security problems, the ODU President General Barr. Chimezie Obi said this: “Waiting for government to provide security may leave criminals over-running the community before government’s intervention.
“We must all join hands to secure our community by contributing to security funding.
“Security is an expensive business. If you complain about the expensive nature of security funding, then, you may wish to try insecurity.”
He expressed his appreciation to the well-meaning people of Obosi town whose prompt response to his call for help has boosted his morale, lifted his spirits, and energized him for community services.
