The family of a 66-year-old Indonesian grandmother identified simply as Hasia has been left in shock after her remains were found inside a python.

Daily Mail reports that the incident occurred around dense vegetation in a village in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province on Tuesday afternoon.

Hasia was said to have been walking home after her job at a rubber plantation when she went missing.

Her family launched a search, which turned out futile until locals noticed a 26-foot python with a bulging belly.

The snake is believed to have pounced from the tall grass and clamped down on Hasia’s leg, causing her to fall.

Despite efforts to free herself from its grip, the python eventually squeezed her to death and swallowed her whole.

Her son, Nurdin said, “At first we were worried because she didn’t come home, even in the afternoon.

“We were concerned she had become lost or injured herself at work.

“Then we looked for her in the plantation until around 9 pm, when we found a large python lying still on the grass.

“This was devastating. I know it was a painful death for my mother.

“Even though the snake is dead, it is no consolation. It will never bring her back. Now, we are saying prayers for her to be at peace.”

The family has recovered Hasia’s remains, which will be buried according to Islamic rites today.

Indonesia is home to a large population of pythons.

In 2024, the body of a local farmer and father of three was recovered from the belly of a 23-foot python that crushed him and also swallowed him whole. (Daily Sun)
