Youths applaud appointment of Diette-Spiff to lead Niger Delta dialogue group

The World Assembly of Youths (WAY) has commended the Federal Government for the appointment of King Alfred Deitte-Spiff to lead the Niger Delta dialogue and contact group.

Mr. Preye Ketebu-Brown, Vice President of WAY, in a statement issued on Sunday, and made available in Yenagoa noted that the monarch had the pedigree and clout to achieve peace in the Niger Delta.

The statement reads in part: “The constitution of the Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria headed by King Alfred Deitte-Spiff is indeed a positive posture aimed at a pragmatic approach to regional peace and stability in the Niger Delta.

“It is hoped that the Niger Delta Avengers, other aggrieved persons and groups in the Niger Delta shall embrace this olive branch and work with the King Diette-Spiff Contact Group/Committee for peace to reign.

“We equally advice the Contact Group to engage renowned peace advocates, groups of proven result-oriented track-record in peace building.

“This development was highly commended at ongoing Euro-Afro-Arab Youth Leaders consultations in Romania.

“The forum hosted by Mr. Mihai Dragos, President, Romanian National Youth Council and presided over by Ketebu-Brown, noted that resolving the Niger Delta crisis would create the atmosphere for economic progress in the country and the African sub region.”

According to the statement, the WAY consultation is holding on the sidelines of the Fourth Child and Youth Finance International Summit in Bucharest, Romania.

The meeting is addressing the challenges of youth migrants and youths trapped in conflict areas alongside the rising danger of radicalisation topped the agenda.
