NSCDC operatives
Some youths in Iware, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, have threatened to set ablaze the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office.
Their threats follow the death of a 42-year-old resident of the state, Yunusa Kaka, who was allegedly tortured to death by NSCDC operatives.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, Kaka was arrested after Biliaminu Adamu, a resident of the state togave told security operatives that he gave Kaka two stolen phones.
“Trouble started on March 30 at about 9:00 p.m. when Biliaminu Adamu, 24, was arrested for allegedly stealing two handsets and two packets of Benson cigarettes from Peter Majo of Iware Ward.
“While in custody, Adamu claimed he had given the stolen phones to Kaka, who denied any involvement,” said Zagazola.
In an attempt to extract a confession from Kaka, security operatives tortured him.
Zagazola noted that Kaka became unresponsive and was taken to the Miyetti Allah Hospital in Iware by his brother.
Kaka was confirmed dead in the hospital, and the news of his death sparked unrest in the community.
“News of Kaka’s death sparked outrage, with a large number of youths mobilizing to attack the NSCDC office,” Zagazola said.
“However, security personnel managed to prevent the attack, and calm has since been restored to the area.”
The security expert added that authorities revealed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. (The Guardian)
