The Taraba State Police Command said they have rescued 20 kidnapped victims in a daring operation along the Takum/Mararaba road.

The rescue, which took place on March 29, was carried out by operatives of the 67PMF Takum in collaboration with the military.

Police spokesperson, ASP James Lashen Saminu, in a statement, said the operation was initiated after officers stationed at the Samta pin-down point received intelligence about an ongoing kidnapping in Muji Town.

?Acting swiftly, a team led by Inspector John Peter mobilized to the scene and engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle,? Saminu said.

The assailants, unable to withstand the firepower, fled with injuries, leaving behind their captives. Among the rescued victims were Yakubu Usman of Angwan Abuja and Godwin Peter of Dadin Kiowa, both of whom sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The Divisional Police Officer later led officers back to the scene, where they recovered several abandoned vehicles belonging to the victims.

The police said it has launched an investigation to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police, Bretet Emmanuel Simon, reassured residents of the command?s commitment to combating crime.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information to aid in the fight against criminal activities. (The Guardian)
