Anti-graft corps throws weight behind EFCC boss

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has received the backing of a civil society group for his stewardship at the anti corruption agency.

In a statement issued by Comr. Eze Harris Chuma, National Commandant, Citizen Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps Nigeria (CACVC), the group said Magu is “working efficiently and needs not be changed or distracted. His winning ways cannot be demystified by wrongdoers. We make bold to state that the on-going conspiracy against his person will be fiercely resisted by vibrant and viral coalitions of NGOs fighting corruption in Nigeria. He should be allowed to finish the good work he has started.”

The group declared that it is neither “deaf nor blind to read the undercurrents pushing for his removal. Yes, other efficient and capable hands abound but changing Magu at this critical time will definitely send bad signals and will discourage the citizens from the Federal Government’s seriousness in the war against corruption. This act alone is capable of eroding President Buhari’s anti graft support in the mind of Nigerians.”

CACVC also observed that in view of recent developments, it's quite obvious that Magu is fast closing in on elements it described as fat cats; and suggested that he should be allowed to “club them.

“We hereby warn that those who are restive and panic-stricken by Magu's gallantry should stop playing politics with the on-going war against grand corruption. The Federal Government led by President Mohammadu Buhari knows that he became internationally popular and accepted for his zero tolerance for corruption as such should not break the ladder.

“CACVC hereby maintains that to change a winning team amounts to committing serious and unacceptable blunder which we believe President Buhari will never venture into.”
