A security guard and father of three, identified as Ifeanyi Ani, was allegedly beaten to death by a customer at a popular eatery in Rumukrushi in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday evening.
According to sources who spoke to our correspondent on Saturday, the customer who came to purchase food at the eatery parked his car and left his headlights on.
It was also gathered that the security guard went to tell the owner of the car to turn off the light, but found out that it was the man?s wife who was in the car.
Our source revealed that while the security guard was telling the man?s wife to dim the light, the owner of the car came out and asked him (security guard) what he was telling the wife.
The security guard told him, but an altercation ensued between them, and the customer allegedly punched the security guard severally, which led to the latter?s collapse and eventual death.
One of the sources said, ?It was like a movie. People were talking to the man, but he refused and was still punching the security man. I think the security man is from Enugu State.?
He further said following the collapse of the guard the management of the eatery arrested the customer and handed him over to Mini-Okoro Police Division.
Speaking on the incident, a rights group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign, said a sister to the security guard, Chinaza Ani had approached their organisation with its partner, ?Lawyers Watch For Justice International Initiative? in search for justice.
National Coordinator of the Centre, Prince Wiro, said this while reacting to the incident.
?But she later told us to stay action, that the family wants to have a meeting with certain persons?, Wiro explained.
When contacted, spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe- Koko confirmed the incident, saying investigation was on going.
She said, ?Yes, I can confirm the incident. The man has been arrested and is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing.? (Saturday PUNCH)
