MTN has hired another senior banker, Rand Merchant Bank’s Kholekile Ndamase, as deputy to Stephen van Coller.
The cellphone network announced on Monday that Van Coller, the CEO of Barclays Africa Group’s corporate and investment bank, would join it as vice-president of strategy and mergers and acquisitions on October 1.
MTN said Van Coller’s appointment brought its number of vice-presidents to four. The other three were responsible for different geographic regions.
“While at Rand Merchant Bank, Ndamase led the provision of financing solutions for diversified and nondiversified investment holding companies, including black economic empowerment (BEE) transactions such as Aspen, Bidvest, FirstRand, MTN and Steinhoff,” MTN said in its statement on Friday.
MTN said its strategy and mergers and acquisitions team “has been tasked with taking advantage of opportunities presented by a rapidly changing sector”.
Ndamase’s “knowledge and skills are essential to the attainment of MTN’s broader growth strategy, as we continue to focus our efforts on developing our participation in adjacent sectors,” the company said.
