Civil Defence intercepts trailer-load of crude oil, arrests suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Abia State command, at the weekend announced the arrest of two suspects, Banjo Ayo and Charles Nwachukwu, in possession of 20,000 litres of crude oil in a truck on their way from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, en route Imo State.

The arrest took place at Obehie in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Imo State during a patrol of the NSCDC along Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.

Benito Eze, Commandant, NSCDC, Abia State, the command is on course in carrying out its mandate to end oil theft and vandalism of facilities as well as putting an end the economic sabotage in various forms around the country.

The suspects, Ayo, a mechanic said he was unaware of the contents of the truck, Nwachukwu said he was forced into the business by hunger.

The suspect would soon be arraigned in court for prosecution. (Independent)
