Insecurity: Cross River cries out to FG, seeks protection

The Cross River State Government is appealing to the Federal Government to extend the services of Operation Delta Save to Cross River State in order for the security operative to extend its support to the state.

According to the State Governor, Ben Ayade, this became necessary following the increased rate of crime witnessed in the state in the past months.

He made the call at the Peace Park in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital following a five-hour intensive security meeting with service commanders in a closed door session.

Heads of all security operatives were present at the meeting which held at the government to fashion out new security architecture that will put an end to all forms of security threats in the state.

Speaking after the meeting, the Governor said that for effective policing, the security budget has been increased to accommodate the demands of the agency while an addition of 30 vehicles would be provided to cover the Calabar city centre.

While assuring the safety of lives and property of residents in the state, Ayade sued for cooperation with security agencies by availing the agency with useful information.

He said arrests of some criminals have been made and the State will ensure their prosecution to serve as a detergent.
