Over 190 Ebonyi people evicted from Ilaje, Lagos State, arrived Iziogo in Izzi Local Government Area of the state yesterday, Thursday, March 13, 2025.
They arrived at 10:47 am at the palace of the traditional ruler representing Izzi Local Government Area in Lagos State, His Royal Highness, Eze Cyprian Nwekee, in Iziogo.
Addressing victims, Eze Nwekee described the experience as sad, saying that though no life was lost, the victims would suffer greatly if not properly settled and financially empowered.
He revealed that affected persons lived in the heart of Lagos before evacuation and appealed to government at all levels for financial assistance to resituate victims knowing that there is no land for them to go back to farm, whereas many are already old and cannot farm again.
Speaking with the victims, Mr. Mathias Nwenyim, Mrs Nomi Martina, and Mrs Helen Ogbonna, a native of Agbaja Community expressed joy for the intervention of Eze Nwekee, who came to their rescue.
Mrs Ogbonna, who said she had lived in Lagos State for over 20 and has ten children, bemoaned that life would be useless to most victims without help from individual, government or group as affected persons lost everything in the ugly incident except sleeping materials and few items.
