Clark family warns against unauthorised funeral fundraising

The family of the late Niger Delta elder statesman, Edwin Clark, has warned against unauthorised fundraising efforts for his funeral.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by Panaowei Clark, Chief Ebikeme Clark, and Miss Emomotimi Clark, the family made it clear that no individual or group has been authorised to solicit public funds or support for the burial.

The statement read, “Nobody has been mandated or nominated by the family to approach the Federal or state governments, groups, or individuals to solicit support in any form, discuss, or arrange for the burial of our late father and patriarch, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.

“No such arrangement can be made without the direct involvement of the family.”

The family acknowledged the outpouring of sympathy since the passing of the elder statesman on February 17, 2025, and expressed gratitude to those who had visited his homes in Kiagbodo, Delta State, as well as Lagos and Abuja, to pay their respects.

“We are indeed overwhelmed by the love and solidarity shown by all who have identified with and commiserated with our family in this trying time. We deeply appreciate the Federal Government and various state governors for their condolences and the moral and financial support given to us in receiving our numerous visitors,” the statement noted.

They also commended groups such as the Ijaw National Congress, Pan Niger Delta Forum, Afenifere, Arewa, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Middle Belt Forum, among others, for their support.

Acknowledging Clark’s national stature, the family emphasized that his burial arrangements would require careful planning and coordination with key stakeholders.

It added, “To this effect, we want to inform the general public that no individual or group has been authorized by the family to solicit funds or support from any quarter regarding our late father’s burial. Any such discussions or arrangements must involve us directly.

“We look forward to working with relevant stakeholders to finalize the date and programme for the burial and appeal for the understanding and cooperation of all concerned.” (The PUNCH)
