The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has expressed his condolences to the Zamfara State Government over the unfortunate airstrike incident that occurred on January 11, 2025, in Dangebe community under Maradun Local Government Area of the state.
During his visit to Gusau on Thursday, the Air Chief described the incident as regrettable, assuring that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remains committed to ensuring such errors do not reoccur.
Speaking during a meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal, Air Marshal Abubakar commended the state government?s handling of the situation, emphasising that NAF remains dedicated to working with the government to enhance security in the region.
As part of efforts to support victims, the Nigerian Air Force has provided financial assistance, pledged to rebuild destroyed buildings, and replace two motorcycles lost during the incident.
The Air Chief also assured that Air Force has taken measures to prevent future occurrences, reaffirming its commitment to precision in air operations and the protection of civilian lives.
In his remarks, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, appealed to the NAF to establish a permanent base or an Air Force hangar in the state once the Gusau International Airport is completed.
Governor Lawal acknowledged that Zamfara remains the hub of banditry in the Northwest, stressing the need for stronger military presence to tackle the security challenges.
He assured the Air Chief of his administration?s commitment to supporting security agencies in the fight against insurgency and banditry.
In recognition of the NAF?s role in restoring peace, the governor commended Air Marshal Abubakar for the measures taken to assist victims of the January 11 airstrike, including financial support, reconstruction of damaged buildings, and replacement of lost property.
As part of efforts to enhance security in the state, Governor Lawal formally presented the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for a new Air Force base, reaffirming the state government?s commitment to continuous collaboration with NAF and other security agencies.
The establishment of an Air Force base in Zamfara is expected to strengthen counterinsurgency operations, improve rapid response capabilities, and enhance overall security in the region. (Channels TV)
