Land dispute: Man, 63, in court for alleged attempt to kill traditional ruler

The police, on Wednesday, arraigned a 63-year-old man, Rotimi Osho, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged conspiracy and attempt to kill a traditional ruler, Oba Adebayo Mummini, the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti.

The defendant, who resides on Longe Way in Ayede-Ekiti, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempt to kill and breach of the peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large had land dispute with the ruler sometimes in 2024.

Oriyomi said that the defendant and others at large allegedly conspired with some hoodlums to murder Oba Adebayo Mummini, the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 421, 320 and 70(1) (a, b & c) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until March 10 for hearing. (NAN)
