The Class of 1975 of Government Secondary School Owerri Old Boys Association, is gearing up for an extraordinary week of celebration as it marks its 50th anniversary of admission into the school from March 4 to March 9, 2025.
It promises to be a memorable reunion filled with activities that honour the legacy and achievements of its distinguished alma mater.
According to a statement made available by Victor Anazonwu, Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Organizing Committee, the festivities will kick off on Tuesday, March 4, with a Chess and Scrabble Contest at the School, bringing together competitive spirits and showcasing strategic minds in a friendly battle of wits.
The celebration will continue on Thursday, March 6, with an Anniversary Debate on the topic "Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a greater danger to our future than a benefit." Featuring student debaters from the SS3 class, this event aims to reinforce the importance of intellectual discourse and critical thinking in today?s society.
The excitement is set to heighten on Friday, March 7, with the official commissioning of the renovated cricket pitch at the school followed by an Invitational Cricket Match between the cricket teams of the host school and the visiting Government Secondary School Afikpo.
According to Chijioke Orji, Captain of the Class of 1975, ?This event symbolizes our ongoing commitment to nurturing sportsmanship and physical well-being among students, teachers and the old boys alike.?
On Saturday 8th March, an elegant dinner will be held at the prestigious Full Moon Hotel, New Owerri, where members of the class will gather from all over the world for an evening of nostalgia, laughter and renewed connections.
The highlight of the dinner will be a Keynote Address on the theme, ?Because of where I come from; my Entrepreneurship Journey? to be delivered by Dr. Chika Ikenga, Chairman of Eunisell Group. Other distinguished old boys will take the stage to share insights and experiences, focusing on the importance of education and community.
The evening will culminate in the award of prizes and recognitions to outstanding students, teachers and old boys.
The events will come to a close on Sunday 9th March with a Thanksgiving Service at the School Assembly Hall in gratitude to God for a successful anniversary and for His numerous blessings over the years.
