Buhari, former president of Nigeria
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to his Kaduna residence after spending nearly two years in his native Daura town in Katsina State, where he retired to after he left office in May 2023.
One of his former media aides, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this on X yesterday, saying after completing his eight-year tenure, Buhari opted for a quiet life in his hometown and largely stayed out of active political discussions, focusing on private engagements.
He said Buhari was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries, which included Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and his Kaduna State counterpart, Uba Sani; current and former deputy governors of Katsina State, a former Inspector General of Police, former ministers, and several of his personal aides.
Buhari had been absent from two high-profile events in the last one week. His absence at the book launch of General Ibrahim Babangida?s autobiography was attributed to lingering resentment over the 1985 coup that ousted him from power.
Explaining his absence from the APC NEC meeting on Wednesday, Garba Shehu, his spokesman, said Buhari was invited to the meeting late.
?President Buhari was supposed to attend the NEC meeting, but unfortunately the invitation was forwarded to him on Monday and it reached him on Tuesday. For this, he could not leave Daura for Abuja even if he owns a private jet.?
Last month, Buhari said he has been living off the income from renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna. (The Guardian)
