By MUSTAPHA YAURI
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyode, has appealed for timely and actionable information to the assist the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to overcome security challenges in the country.
He stated this on Tuesday at the inauguration of a solar power borehole, blocks of classrooms and chairs, a staff room and six toilets at Nuhu Bamalli Primary School, Kwarbai in Zaria.
The projects were being executed under a Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation Projects facilitated by Maj.-Gen. Shua?ibu Nuhu.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Abdul-Khaleefa Ibrahim, Commander, Nigeria Army Infantry Corps, Oluyode restated commitment of the Nigerian Army to pursue both kinetic and non-kinetic lines of operations.
?We will continue to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies as well as with communities like Zaria, to ensure a secure and enabling environment for socio-economic development,? he said.
He said the special intervention civil-military cooperation projects, provided an opportunity for the Nigerian Army to deploy its non-kinetic approach towards strengthening civil-military relations to foster community development.
According to Oluyode, the intervention remains a cornerstone of efforts to foster public support, enhance cooperation and sustain a harmonious interaction between the army and the civil population.
The army chief said the initiative was also geared towards complementing government?s infrastructure development drive, especially in communities tied to senior officers who rose to the rank of Major General.
The Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmad Bamalli commended the gesture, and tasked Zaria Local Education Authority (LEA), to ensure effective utilisation of the facilities.
Bamalli noted that Zazzau Emirate was a host to key army and police training institutions, and called for execution of more viable projects to strengthen collaboration between communities and security agencies. (NAN)
