True to their boast, African champions Nigeria tamed hosts South Africa minutes ago in this year’s Nelson Mandela Challenge clash, thus marking a second triumph in six months after winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa.

It was a night on which the Super Eagles largely dominated proceedings, claiming victory via two unreplied second half goals to electrify the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

After a barren first half in which both sides missed sitting chances, Super Eagles gaffer Stephen Keshi changed the forward line, pulled out the trio of Sunday Mba, Obinna Nsofor and Shola Ameobi for Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa and Uche Nwafor respectively.

The result started coming only three minutes into the second half when Nwafor received a short pass in the middle of the box, turned swiftly and, with his back to goal, back-heeled home the opener. It was Nwafor again in the 68^th minute, tapping into an empty net after being fed by Musa. All efforts by the homers to reduce the tally proved abortive.

Keshi had said before the match that he was aiming for win. “We aim to win every game we go into and this one would not be different,” he had said.

Keshi said he would use this game to prepare for the decisive 2014 World Cup qualifier against Malawi next month, saying: “We hope to use this match to know the best way to tackle our most important game next month.”
