Enugu State University of Science and Technology ESUT gate
The management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended three lecturers for allegedly engaging in extortion, grade alterations, and selling grades to students.
Also suspended was a student from the Medical Laboratory Science Department, ThankGod Chinonso Obi, who was accused of aiding and abetting the offenses.
The disciplinary action follows a report from the ESUT College of Medicine (ESUCOM) Disciplinary Committee, which was reviewed by the university?s Management Committee. The affected lecturers are Dr. Ezugwu Samuel Ndubuisi (Department of Anatomy), Dr. Ugwuishi Emeka (Department of Physiology), and Dr. Nwafor Charles (Department of Physiology).
According to a statement from the university?s Public Relations Department, the suspensions took effect from January 23, 2025, pending further investigation by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
Reports indicate that the lecturers allegedly collaborated with the student, who served as a class representative, to solicit money from students in exchange for grade alterations.
?He (the student) usually claimed his fellow students had either failed the lecturers? exams or received poor grades.
?This usually got those involved worried to begin to look for money with which to pay the lecturers in exchange for grades. This is what has been going on there until complaints started pouring in,? a university source said. (The Nation)
