Expelled UNIZIK student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The expelled third year student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, has visited the lecturer she assaulted in the company of her parents, siblings and some members of UNIZIK staff to tender apology for her unruly behaviour.
Chiamaka was expelled from the university on Friday, February 14, for slapping, biting and tearing the cloth of a lecturer of the institution, Dr Chukwudi Okoye, in an effort to retrieve her phone from him. She was recording a TikTok dance video when the lecturer allegedly asked her to delete the scene where he appeared a she was filmed without his consent as he was passing by.
Following the incident, the university management set up a committee to investigate the incident and in two days it came up with the penalty of expulsion from the University.
According to a source, “The girl’s father made it clear that their visit was not to influence the university’s disciplinary action but simply to ask the lecturer to find a place in his heart to forgive his daughter.
“They wanted him to know they regretted her actions and were deeply sorry.”
According to the source, who pleaded anonymity, Precious broke down in tears while apologizing.
It was gathered that Dr. Okoye in his response comforted her and assured her of his forgiveness.
The source said: “When she started crying, Dr. Chukwudi held her tight, wiped her tears, and told her he had truly forgiven her.
“The disciplinary measures remained unchanged, as the university was determined to use the case as a deterrent to other students. No lecturer or staff could have influenced the decision of the disciplinary committee
“The school wanted to ensure that the university’s image was not dragged into the mud.”
The source further pointed out that while Precious was expelled, she was not rusticated, meaning she could still gain admission into another institution.
“If she had been both expelled and rusticated, it would have affected her chances of gaining admission into any government-owned university and even impacted her ability to work in public service in the future,” the source added.
