The student and the assaulted lecturer

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIXIK), Awka, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, has ordered a full scale investigation into an alleged assault on a male lecturer by a female student of the university.
Reacting to the trending video in a statement signed by the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr Louis Njelita, the VC gave assurance that the investigation would adhere to principle of fair hearing.
The video which showed a third year student, Miss Chimamaka Precious Goddy-Mbakwe of Department of History and International Studies, dragging a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, Dr Chukwudi Okoye, for allegedly trying to collect her phone.
UNIZIK said in the statement: ?In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, and in adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu has ordered a full scale, transparent and unbiased investigation into the matter.
?The incident which has gained significant attention on social media, is being taken very seriously by the University authorities. We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth.
?The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate action and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation.?
While noting that UNIZIK remains an institution of learning that upholds high moral and ethical standards, Ikechebelu stressed that there is no place for indiscipline, misconduct or any form of unacceptable behaviour within the university community.
