Police in Ogun State have arrested a 31-year-old man, Olarewaju Idris, following a series of alleged sexual assaults on female students at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun.
The suspect, who reportedly targeted students at the institution, was apprehended on Saturday at a hotel in Erinwo, Ijebu-Ode.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect had a pattern of preying on female students.
One victim, an 18-year-old student from the Library and Information Department, reported being assaulted after meeting the suspect at a lounge in Ijebu-Ode. The suspect allegedly abducted her at knifepoint and took her to a secluded location where he carried out the attack.
?At around 6:00 a.m., an 18-year-old survivor arrived at the police station, visibly distressed,? Odutola explained.
?She described how, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the suspect approached her at the club and, under the threat of a knife, forcibly took her to a nearby street, where he raped her before fleeing.?
In a similar development, another TASUED student, a 300-level undergraduate, reported a similar ordeal. She alleged that the same suspect lured her onto a motorcycle and took her to Magun Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, where he sexually assaulted her, inflicting severe bruises on her.
Odutola added that the suspect is now in police custody, while the victims have been taken to Ijebu Ode State Hospital for urgent medical attention. (Text, excluding headline: The Guardian)
