Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and supporting the legal migration of Nigerians, emphasising the importance of doing so for their safety and well-being.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, stated this in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Germany.
Dingyadi explained that the government would continue to encourage legal migration to protect Nigerians from the dangers associated with illegal migration and to ensure mutual benefits for Nigeria and host countries.
He assured the delegation of the Federal Government?s willingness to collaborate on initiatives that would promote safe migration and vocational skills development.
?We thank you very much for creating time to come and share with us the opportunities that abound in your chamber.
?I must tell you that the two subject matters that you?re highlighting here?labour migration and vocational skills development?are part of the core mandate of this ministry,? Dingyadi said.
He added that vocational training is crucial in tackling unemployment, as it equips Nigerian youths with practical skills and job opportunities both at home and abroad.
?This vocational training in particular is part of the core mandate of the Ministry, seeking to create jobs for the teeming population of our country.
?Some of the people trained who migrate to other countries will eventually come back to train our people, and we are going to benefit a lot from this kind of relationship,? he said.
Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, facilitated the visit and introduced the delegation.
He noted that the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chamber had been committed to strengthening Nigeria-Germany relations through its dual vocational education system, which combines classroom learning with hands-on experience.
According to Mohammed, the dual vocational training model could be a game-changer for Nigeria by equipping youths with industry-relevant skills, enhancing their employability, and boosting productivity.
Chamber President, Dr. Mathias Leder, emphasised the importance of language skills for migrants, as it helps them integrate better into German society.
He revealed that 98 percent of apprentices who undergo the dual vocational training program in Germany successfully secure job offers.
The Federal Government assured the delegation of its openness to future collaborations that will empower Nigerian youths and strengthen labour migration practices for the benefit of both countries. (Saturday Tribune)
