A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of two men, Umar Yunusa and Ja’eh Usman, in a correctional centre for allegedly kidnapping their neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter.
Yunusa, 30 and Usman, 35, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the pleas of the defendants, for lack of jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Emmanuel, however, ordered the defendants to be remanded pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution(DPP).
He adjourned the case until March 20 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Yusuf Inuwa, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences sometime in December 2024 in Kaduna.
According to him, the defendants kidnapped their neighbour’s daughter from Rigasa, Kaduna, to Rigachukwu area of Kaduna State.
He said the offences contravened Sections 59 and 273 of the Penal Code Kaduna State, 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 273 provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years and a fine for kidnapping, if found guilty. (NAN)
