Two people have been killed after their vehicle detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists while traveling from Harang and Jibhuhwui villages in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State to Garkida community in Adamawa State.

The Incident, which occurred on Tuesday, left other occupants with severe injuries as they were on their way to the Garkida market. The injured individuals have since been evacuated and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Biu Town.

Sources have reported that, in recent days, some remote communities near Sambisa Forest have witnessed Boko Haram attacks, including the looting of foodstuffs and domestic animals without any confrontation.

Community leaders confirmed the latest attack and praised the efforts of Alhaji Mohammed Shawulu Yohanna, the North East Chairman and Commander of Hunters/Vigilantes in Hawul Local Government Area, and his team, who have been successful in confronting the terrorists and handing them over to the troops.

They have called on security agencies to take stronger action to address the renewed attacks in Chibok, Askira-Uba, Damboa, Hawul, and other areas in Borno South Senatorial District.

One community leader, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, explained that villagers from Harang and Jibhuhwui were attacked when their vehicle unknowingly ran over an IED planted on the rural road during the night. The explosion resulted in two deaths, while others are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Biu Town.

Efforts to confirm details from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful at press time. (Vanguard)
