ABSIEC Chairman, Prof George Chima
The Chairman of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, has reportedly regained freedom days after being kidnapped.
Prof. Chima was reportedly kidnapped January 30 by gunmen numbering four in his residence at Okigwe while he was playing host to some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu in his Okigwe residence when about four armed men suspected to be kidnappers stormed the house, harassed his visitors and took away him away.
The gunmen was said to have snatched an oncoming Passat vehicle carrying wood after attempts to use his car being washed by his driver failed.
It could not be ascertained if the abductors collected ransom before releasing him.
Our correspondent reports that the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka said that there was no official report of the incident in the command, asking that her Imo State counterpart should be contacted since the incident was said to have happened in their jurisdiction.
The Imo PPRO, Henry Okoye, could not be reached at the time of filing the report. (The Nation)
