National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC National Headquarters Abuja, CSC Babawale Afolabi Anipr
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has denounced a recent media report being misrepresented in some quarters concerning a case of kidnapping, banditry and supply of Arms and ammunition.
It described the story as misleading having presented as a recent incident and also addressing the culprits as NSCDC Personnel.
In its reaction through a statement by the National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC National Headquarters Abuja, CSC Babawale Afolabi Anipr, tagged AAA.03/CPRU/NHQ/ABJ/VOL.06/019peq0ap1a dated 29/01/2025, the agency said that the story does not reflect the accuracy of facts.
Setting the record straight, the statement read in part, ?The arrests in question were made in October 2022, concerning individuals who were at that time personnel of the Corps but have been dismissed since 2023.
?It is important to clarify that the suspects acted independently and did not represent the NSCDC in any capacity.
?The recent court proceedings held are part of the ongoing judicial process related to these arrests.
?It is important to note that the NSCDC management and high command had implemented various reforms and initiatives aimed at strengthening the security of the nation and forthwith condemns any act of sabotage and breech of security.?
?The efforts are conducted in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of citizens across board.
It further stressed that the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar has zero-tolerance for all acts of misconduct, indiscipline and unpatriotic dealings among its personnel.
According to Afolabi, the three arrested individuals have been dismissed since 2023 and are no longer operatives of the NSCDC.
While saying that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in all intent and actions, it added, ?In our ongoing efforts to enhance security, the Corps has actively collaborated with various security agencies through Training and Re-trainings, Joint Task Force and many other operations.
?On this note we urge all media outlets to accurately balance the reportage and avoid sensationalism and misrepresentation, which can erode public trust and potentially cause distrust and denigrate the image of the corps.?
It expressed its commitment and unwavering stance in safeguarding the nation?s critical national assets and infrastructure and protection of lives and property of the people.
The agency insisted that the Corps is dedicated to the public service with integrity, discipline and professional conduct.
