Some nursing mothers in Zamfara suffering malnutrition have called for support to safe their lives and their children.
The mothers were admitted with their children for severe malnutrition at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.
They made the appeal before the United Nation International Children Educational Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria Representative, Mrs Christiane Munduate, during a visit to the facility.
Forty-three-year-old Malama Safa?atu Suleiman, who is nursing her 19 months old baby, and 20-year-old Mrs Hassanatu Suleiman with a two months baby, appealed for medical and financial assistance to live a normal life.
On her part, Malama Saratu Hassan, said she got married at 18 years and not happy seeing her 2-month-old child in that condition.
She said her husband had travelled to Nasarawa State in search of livelihood and now awaiting referral to Usmanu Dandodio University Teaching (UDUTH, Sokoto for treatment.
Another mother, 20-year-old Rahama Muhammad from Saminaka in Gusau, nursing her second 13 months child suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting, made similar call.
She appealed for assistance because her husband ?is a farmer? and have no enough to provide for the family needs.
Mrs Safa?atu Suleiman, 43 years and a mother to a 20-year-old nursing mother lamented that she and her 19 months baby are suffering from acute malnutrition.
Similarly, 23-year-old Zainab Idris said she was nursing her 15 months old Jabir Musa suffering from chronic cough and solicited for urgent financial help.
Dr Aminu Mohammed Nahuche, the Medical Director of the facility, and the Health Specialist, UNICEF Sokoto Field Office, Dr Danjuma Nehemiah, in company of other top health officials, conducted Munduate round the hospital. (NAN)
