The Police in Lagos on Friday arraigned five factory workers, Ayodeji Mokuolu, Godwin Onyegbule, Joseph Odeyimi, Abiodun Makinwa and Chibuzor Nguma, for allegedly stealing goods worth N11.3 million.
Mokuolu, 39, a production supervisor; Onyegbule, 55, a security guard; Odeyimi, 46; Makinwa, 38 and Nguma, 39, factory worker, are facing trial before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
They pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, had told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov.16, 2024 at Zaika Foods Ltd., Ikeja.
Akeem said that the defendants conspired and stole five cartons of soya oil, mayonnaise and some seasonings, all valued at N11.3 million.
He said the goods belonged to the defendants’ employer, Zaika Foods Ltd.
According to him, the defendants were caught trying to take the goods out of the company’s premises.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Kushanu granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Kushanu adjourned the case until Jan. 23 for mention. (NAN)
