The Lagos State Government has launched the Eko Learners? Support for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) candidates.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun made this known at the unveiling of the programme at Education Resource Centre in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to him, the programme is a comprehensive initiative designed to help WAEC and NECO candidates achieve academic excellence in their external examinations.

Alli-Balogun, said the initiative had been designed to broadcast a head-start of 320 lessons in 10 different subjects.

The subjects are English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Government, History, Literature-in-English and Yoruba.

?These lessons will be broadcast on Lagos Television, as well as other social media platforms, and will feature proficient teachers who have undergone rigorous screening.

?The programme will run for 26 weeks, with each episode lasting 30 minutes, and will be archived on social media platforms.

?The platforms include YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) for easy access.

?The lessons after broadcast on television are archived permanently on social media platforms,? Alli-Balogun explained.

The commissioner emphasised that the programme was designed to enable candidates to engage privately with the resources, give feedback, and ask questions.

He added that candidates were also expected to create a collaborative forum with their teachers and other learners.

The idea, he said, was to get the learners and candidates energising one another to improve performance.

?The lessons have been developed and prepared in accordance with the Lagos State Government approved Scheme of Work and the WAEC & NECO syllabus.

?They will be delivered sequentially to enable learners to go back and select areas they may have missed,? the commissioner said.

Alli-Balogun urged the students to take full advantage of the initiative, saying that: ?Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance would be the keys to unlocking their dreams.?

He also reminded them that education was a lifelong journey, and that the state government remained committed to supporting them every step of the way.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the initiative is a testament to the state government?s commitment to providing quality education to residents.

It is reminiscent of other successful education programmes in the state, such as the EKOEXCEL programme.

The programme has been featured at the Education World Forum and has received international recognition for its innovative approach to education. (NAN)
